Registered Psychologist · Adults 18+

I help adults who feel stuck in overthinking, self-doubt and patterns that keep repeating.

Sometimes the way we feel and respond today is shaped by difficult experiences, relationships or ways of coping we developed earlier in life. Therapy can help you understand what is keeping you stuck and develop different ways forward.

Young people aged 15–17 are also welcome to enquire; each request is considered individually. If you are aged 15–17, or enquiring on behalf of someone in this age group, please book a free 15-minute phone consultation with Della to discuss whether Luma Psychology is a suitable fit.

Psychology for adults in Blackburn and via Telehealth.

Sometimes it can feel like...

  • Why do I keep replaying conversations and wondering if I said the wrong thing?
  • I’m doing well, so why do I still feel like I’m not good enough?
  • One mistake or setback, and suddenly it feels like I’ve failed.
  • Why does something that happened years ago still affect me now?
  • Even when things are going well, why do I still feel on edge?
  • I’m exhausted, so why can’t my mind switch off when I get into bed?

You don’t need to relate to all of these, or know exactly why you feel this way, to reach out.

We can start with what’s happening for you now, make sense of it together, and explore what you would like to change.

Understanding what keeps you stuck

Sometimes the difficulties we experience today are connected to patterns that developed much earlier.

Ways of coping that once helped us manage difficult relationships, uncertainty or stressful experiences can continue even after the situation has changed.

Therapy can help make sense of these connections and identify what may help you respond differently now.

  1. Understand the pattern

Make sense of what is happening and why.

  2. Notice what keeps it going

Explore thoughts, emotions, behaviours and relationship patterns.

  3. Create something different

Develop new ways of responding that support the life you want.

Portrait of Della Zhang, Registered Psychologist at Luma Psychology

Hi, I’m Della

I'm a Registered Psychologist and the founder of Luma Psychology.

My style is warm, practical and collaborative. I enjoy helping people understand the patterns underlying their difficulties, while also addressing the symptoms affecting them now.

Sometimes therapy involves practical strategies that can help with what is happening right now. At other times, it can be helpful to look more deeply at patterns, relationships or earlier experiences. We can decide together what is most useful for you.

Young people aged 15–17 are also welcome to enquire; each request is considered individually. If you are aged 15–17, or enquiring on behalf of someone in this age group, please book a free 15-minute phone consultation with Della to discuss whether Luma Psychology is a suitable fit.

Depending on your needs, therapy may draw on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy and mindfulness.

A different perspective

不识庐山真面目,只缘身在此山中。

We cannot see the whole mountain clearly when we are standing within it.

— Su Shi, Written on the Wall of West Forest Temple, 1084

Why Luma?

When we’re living inside a difficult experience, it can be hard to see the whole picture.

Luma is inspired by light, perspective and 路 (lù) — the idea of a path forward. There is rarely only one road to where we want to go.

Therapy isn’t about a psychologist having all the answers. Sometimes another perspective can help us see what is difficult to see from the inside, understand what’s keeping us stuck, and find a way forward that fits.

What you can expect

Understanding, not judgement

We work to make sense of what is happening with curiosity and without judgement.

Practical when helpful

Therapy can include strategies you can use outside the therapy room.

Going deeper when needed

We can also explore patterns and experiences that have built up over time when this is useful.

Collaborative

You bring knowledge of your life. I bring psychological knowledge. We work together.
